When choosing a reel to fish in hot weather/saltwater the discussions about drag systems typically turn to cork. No question cork is wonderful drag surface but not in all conditions. The fact of the matter is that an exposed cork drag system is a poor choice for a reel is cold weather. At Wildcat Creek Outfitters we know this from personal experience. At around 32 degrees air temperatures a film or glaze of ice can form on the cork making your very expensive reel operate about as good as a Walmart special. The Nautilus reels have no such problem. The Nautilus CCF drag system is a hermetically sealed drag system. Now you can choose a silky smooth cork drag that can be used in saltwater and will work equally well in cold Steelhead conditions.
We have used this reel in every condition imaginable all over the world. We believe it is the best cork drag system known to man and could arguably be the best drag system made today. It is one of the few reels we can use on the flats in the Caribbean one week and the next week use it fighting Steelhead in the Northwest or Great Lakes. When we travel this is our choice. See the Nautilus reel chart for backing capacities.
