Sharkskin Floating Lines

Sharkskin Product Review by Chad Miller

We have had the great pleasure to fish Sharkskin before it came to market. We have fished the different tapers in Mexico for Largemouth, Chile for Trout, Trout in Montana, and Redfish in Louisiana. The honest to goodness truth is that it preformed markedly better than any line I have ever used. The obvious things about Sharkskin most of you already know. It floats high, casts a mile and doesn’t get dirty like other lines, although sand will stick to it a little. The difference is in the application of these attributes. If you are someone who struggles with mending; your struggles are about to end. I have never had a line mend easier in my life. I was fishing a two fly rig on the Rio Simpson and needed to make a very long mend and lifted the line up and it came off the water with little work. I couldn’t believe it made a mend with that length of line!

One of the things we also like that is a byproduct of the line is the minimal amount of memory. Even the Saltwater Taper has little memory and still stays supple enough to cast in 40 degree weather. No kidding or exaggerate we cast the Saltwater Taper in 40 degree weather it is performed just fine. It will perform in the Biloxi Marsh in Louisiana in the winter as well as the Striper flats and beach in the Northeast. If you fish in a colder saltwater locales do not hesitate to use this line.

The other attribute is line speed. I know this is something that typically used to describe fly rods but; the BIG difference in this line is that it enhances line speed in a far superior way to anything else we have ever used. My S/A sales rep, Jerry Darkes, and I took the brand new not on the market yet Saltwater Taper to Lake Guerrero in Mexico to fish for Largemouth Bass last year. The interesting thing about this fishery is the massive acreage of shallow flats in the back bays in which you can really let a rod rip. It was a moderately windy day and I was casting a Mega Diver about 8 inches long. Into the wind I was able to continually cast the diver 80 feet and my casting was only a small part in it. Now of course I got tired after a while but it is so slick that it actually allows you to have a slower casting stroke and still create high line speeds. Overall the line will allow the angler a more pleasant experience and without question save the angler money because of its durability. We have now fished it for almost two seasons and they are still going strong. We go through even the best lines in a few months but not the Sharkskin. Is it a lot of money, heck yes it is. Is it worth it, you bet!!!

Whether it is the Magnum for Bass in the wonderful Wabash Valley, the Steelhead Taper for the waters of the Great Lakes or Northwest or the endless flats in Caribbean this will enhance your fish catching ability with better line performance and a more enjoyable time on the water.
